A global nonprofit that provides trusted biological materials for science and health, ATCC is hiring a Senior Business Development Manager for Industry Solutions. This is a hybrid role (four days onsite, one day remote) in Manassas, VA. This role leads full lifecycle business development for ATCC Industry Solutions with a primary focus on commercial sales, customer outreach, and winning new business.

 

The Senior Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying and qualifying new leads, developing customer relationships, delivering sales presentations, and converting opportunities into won service contracts. The role drives market engagement of services to prospective customers, partners, and stakeholders; refines sales strategies through customer insights and competitive positioning; and advances opportunities to improve win probability. This individual collaborates with mid- and senior-level management to assess solution viability, develop value propositions, negotiate agreements, and finalize deals while building new customer relationships and expanding existing accounts in biomanufacturing, global health, biosecurity, or biotechnology markets.

Responsibilities

  • Customer Sales & Outreach: Proactively generate and qualify new leads through targeted outreach, customer engagement, and relationship building with prospective clients and partners.
  • Pipeline Development & Opportunity Qualification: Build and manage a pipeline of opportunities by identifying customer needs, qualifying prospects, and positioning AFS services to align with business objectives.
  • Sales Presentations & Market Engagement: Develop and deliver compelling sales pitches, capability presentations, and briefings to prospective customers, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Business Development Operations: Manage pipeline activities, including tracking opportunities, coordinating internal resources, and ensuring continuity and visibility across the sales lifecycle.
  • Customer Relationship Management & Growth: Establish, nurture, and expand client account relationships through strategic engagement, call plans, and ongoing communication to drive revenue growth, contract expansion, and repeat business.
  • Deal Negotiation & Contract Execution: Collaborate with leadership to develop value propositions, negotiate agreements, and finalize service contracts that support organizational growth and new business acquisition.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 12 or more years’ experience or equivalent (PhD and 5 years or master's and 8 years) experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex business development efforts with autonomy, influencing customer engagement strategies, sales execution, and organizational outcomes.
  • Proven success in generating new business, developing customer relationships, and winning service contracts in competitive markets.
  • Experience leading customer-facing engagements, including outreach, presentations, and solution positioning.
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, including market assessment, customer needs analysis, and competitive positioning.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including executive-level presentations and relationship management.
  • Proficiency with CRM tools and experience managing pipeline growth and market positioning.
  • Preferred: Experience in biotechnology, global health, biosecurity, or biomanufacturing markets.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with life sciences services and regulated environments.

 

Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is $130,000 to $150,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional incentive compensation including regular merit increases and the corporate bonus program.
