ATCC, a leading nonprofit biological resources and standards organization, is seeking a Desktop Support Specialist to provide technical assistance and support for computer systems, hardware, and software. This role ensures smooth daily operations by troubleshooting issues, performing installations, and delivering exceptional user support.  This is an onsite position primarily based in Gaithersburg, MD with a requirement to support additional ATCC facilities (one day per week in Germantown, MD, one day per week in Manassas, VA, and remaining days in Gaithersburg, MD).

 

Exciting opportunity to join a life sciences organization.  We are seeking a proactive Desktop Support Specialist and Computer Support Technician with exceptional communication and follow-up skills to independently troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, deliver outstanding customer service, and maintain accurate documentation while managing multiple priorities. Responsibilities

  • Technical Support: Respond to user inquiries for software and hardware issues via phone, email, and messaging applications.
  • System Maintenance: Install, configure, and repair personal computers, peripherals, and software upgrades; run diagnostics as needed.
  • Troubleshooting: Resolve issues on laptops, desktops, tablets, and smartphones; assess problems and escalate when necessary.
  • Inventory & Documentation: Track hardware and software inventory and log support tickets accurately.
  • User Assistance: Provide training and guidance to system users to ensure efficient technology use.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma and 1 or more years of experience or equivalent experience required.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for hardware, software, and core network services (internet, printing).
  • Proficient with operating systems, applications, and peripheral devices.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated adaptability, attention to detail, collaboration, and technical proficiency.
  • Ability to maintain daily operations of internal technology systems and equipment.
  • Experienced in resolving user issues for software and hardware.
  • Skilled in installations, modifications, and repairs of PCs and peripherals.
  • Competent in providing technical assistance and user training.
  • Hands-on experience with PC hardware/software installation and upgrades.
  • Knowledge of minor programming, diagnostics, and system configuration.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting across laptops, desktops, tablets, and smartphones.
  • Ability to configure operating systems and applications (word processing, database, spreadsheets).
  • Preferred: Intermediate knowledge of Windows Client OS, Microsoft Office, and PC hardware repair.

Benefits

The expected salary for this position is $60,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional incentive compensation including regular merit increases and the corporate bonus program.
