ATCC, a leading nonprofit biological resources and standards organization, is seeking an onsite Lead Biologist to join our Microphysiological Systems (MPS) team in Gaithersburg, MD. If you have hands on experience with Stem Cells, iPSC reprogramming, differentiation  this is your chance to drive innovation in human health. The Lead Biologist will contribute to experimental design, execution, and analysis, supporting the development of innovative cellular models and technologies.

Responsibilities

Research and Development: Design and perform laboratory experiments to support ongoing projects in iPSC portfolio.
Contribute to the development and optimization of protocols for differentiating iPSCs into specific cell types, including neural and cardiac lineages. Collaborate with senior scientists to explore new scientific approaches and technologies.
Technical Execution and Documentation: Conduct routine and advanced cell culture, including 3D culture systems such as organoids and spheroids. Apply molecular and cellular biology techniques such as flow cytometry, RT-PCR, ELISA, and various biochemical assays (colorimetric, fluorometric, luminescent). Perform immunofluorescence staining and microscopy (phase contrast, fluorescence, live-cell, and confocal), including image acquisition and analysis. Maintain accurate and detailed experimental records, including protocols, data analysis, and reports.
Quality and Analytical Methods: Assist in developing and implementing analytical methods to assess the quality and functionality of iPSC-derived cells.Troubleshoot technical issues and contribute to continuous improvement of lab workflows and SOPs.
Collaboration and Communication: Present findings in internal meetings and contribute to scientific discussions.Support the preparation of grant applications, technical reports, and publications.Stay current with relevant scientific literature and emerging technologies in stem cell biology and tissue engineering.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8 or more years of relevant experience in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands on experience with iPSC culture and differentiation protocols required.
  • Familiarity with 3D cell culture systems and microphysiological platforms is a plus.
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills.

Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is $90,000 to $105,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional incentive compensation including regular merit increases and the corporate bonus program.
