ATCC, a leading nonprofit biological resources and standards organization, is seeking a Laboratory Operations Supervisor in the QC department to work onsite in Manassas, VA.  The Supervisor, Lab Operations will have experience in a lead role within a laboratory setting and a strong background in molecular biology techniques, including PCR, cell line authentication, STR testing, and Sanger sequencing. This role requires a problem-solver, capable of optimizing lab processes and fostering a collaborative team environment, committed to maintaining high standards of quality, scientific rigor, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Laboratory Management and Operations: Direct and coordinate staff, manage inventory, and oversee quality, safety, and cost control. Lead meetings and develop SOPs and work instructions. Ensure effective operation of laboratory equipment and serve as the point of contact for new equipment procurement and repairs. 
  • Molecular Biology Techniques:  Ability to review, track and approve data relating to a broad array of assays.
  • Personnel Management and Training: Develop and train new staff and ensure performance awareness through regular communication and appraisals. 
  • Quality Assurance and Data Management: Ensure test methodologies comply with QA requirements, standards, and protocols. Oversee troubleshooting of out-of-specification results, data analysis, and process changes. Provide technical input to purchasing, review custom product requests, and interact externally. Compile data for KPIs, prepare reports, and conduct technical presentations. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 or more years' experience, including 0-2 years' supervisory experience or
    equivalent experience.
  • Expertise in molecular biology techniques, including PCR and DNA extractions.
  • Ability to effectively lead a team, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Cell authentication and sequencing experience highly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of QA requirements, regulatory standards, and protocols in a laboratory setting. 
  • Previous experience in leading and coordinating laboratory staff.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and evolving laboratory needs.

Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is $105,000 to $115,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional incentive compensation including regular merit increases and the corporate bonus program.
