ATCC, a pioneer in biomaterials manufacturing, is seeking a Laboratory Operations Supervisor on-site in Manassas, VA who embodies excellence in the field of cell biology. This pivotal role demands extensive background in cell biology, exceptional skills in cell QC testing, virology, and a demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team towards achieving exceptional results. They will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of all laboratory operations in both the cell and virology QC labs.

 

The Laboratory Operations Supervisor coordinates and directs daily activities in one or more laboratory units, demonstrating expertise in scientific and technical aspects. Responsible for staff training, problem resolution, and equipment efficiency, they play a key role in vendor negotiations, implement new services, and provide input for decision-making. 

Responsibilities

  • Laboratory Management and Operations: 
  • Direct and coordinate staff, manage inventory, and oversee quality, safety, and cost control. 
  • Lead meetings and develop SOPs and work instructions. 
  • Ensure effective operation of laboratory equipment and serve as the point of contact for new equipment procurement and repairs. 
  • Vendor Negotiations and Planning: 
  • Organize vendor negotiations, product evaluations, and facility modifications. 
  • Manage planning for new services, expansion, and provide budget input. 
  • Personnel Management and Training: 
  • Develop and train new staff and ensure performance awareness through regular communication and appraisals. 
  • Quality Assurance and Data Management: 
  • Ensure test methodologies comply with QA requirements, standards, and protocols. 
  • Oversee troubleshooting of out-of-specification results, data analysis, and process changes. 
  • Provide technical input to purchasing, review custom product requests, and interact externally. 
  • Compile data for KPIs, prepare reports, and conduct technical presentations.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years’ experience or equivalent. 
  • Experience with Cell QC testing or manufacturing required.
  • Experience in cell biology required.
  • Experience with virology preferred.
  • Previous experience in leading and coordinating laboratory staff. 
  • Strong organizational and project management skills. 
  • In-depth knowledge of QA requirements, regulatory standards, and protocols in a laboratory setting. 
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and evolving laboratory needs.
