    Founded in 1925, ATCC is a non-profit organization with a mission to acquire, authenticate, preserve, develop, standardize, and distribute biological materials and information for the advancement and application of scientific knowledge. 

    The Senior SQL Server DBA will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server RDBMS systems. This position will be responsible for developing and sustaining the SQL Server Warehouse and ensuring its operational readiness (security, health and performance).  Position will be responsible for executing data loads and performing data modeling in support of multiple development teams.

    This position must work and think independently; duties of this position are to be completed under minimal guidance. Discretion in handling assigned responsibilities, including the ability to resolve problems and exercise good judgment while maintaining confidentiality.  Functions are to be completed in a timely manner with acceptable quality.


    1. Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
    2. Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
    3. Apply data modeling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations.
    4. Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
    5. Manage ETL and reporting environment on SQL server and will develop ETL and reports.
    6. Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
    7. Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
    8. Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities.
    9. Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.


    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in the field.  
    • Minimum of three (3) years MS SQL Server Administration experience.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
    • Experience with backups, restores, and recovery models.
    • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server.
    • Experience with SSIS and SSRS for moving data and creating reports.
    • Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory.

    • Position-relevant computer experience including Microsoft Office.
    • Follow all company safety practices, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and policies. 

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience working with or for Federal Contractors.
