Founded in 1925, ATCC is a non-profit organization with a mission to acquire, authenticate, preserve, develop, standardize, and distribute biological materials and information for the advancement and application of scientific knowledge.


The Director of Data Management and Analytics will lead an emerging organization and set of capabilities within ATCC. In this role, you will be a key player in the design, development and support of all data related project activities including the SQL Server Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and our Reltio Master Data Management (MDM) platform. This role works side-by-side with key business stakeholders, developers, analysts, architects, and testing resources to ensure the finished product meets acceptance criteria for each feature. The Director of Data Management and Analytics provides direction to a technical team of employees and consultants using experience and insight and shapes the delivery of EDW and MDM capabilities.

 

This role reports directly to the Chief Information Technology Officer and works with management at all levels in the organization. The Director of Data Management and Analytics role demands a very high degree of experience, technical skills, independence, flexibility, creativity, sound judgment, and reliability. The performance of, and the decisions made by, the successful candidate greatly affect performance and availability of data across the enterprise and ability of leadership to make informed decisions.

 

This senior management position must work and think independently. Duties of this position are to be completed under minimal guidance.  Discretion in handling assigned responsibilities, including the ability to resolve problems and exercise good judgment while maintaining confidentiality.  Functions are to be completed in a timely manner with acceptable quality.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Establish, support and maintain the enterprise data warehouse (EDW). Enhance the EDW with integrations to additional SAAS applications deployed throughout the company.
  2. Establish and support the design, development and maintenance of the MDM platform.
  3. Facilitate the design and execution of a data management and analytics strategy across ATCC.
  4. Create, drive, and mature best practices, metrics, policies and tracking mechanisms relevant to data management and analytics and data quality.
  5. Identify and coordinate cross-organizational related data needs and opportunities.
  6. Identify and resolve areas of uncertainty or conflict between departments, business units, and leadership in order to best support decision making for executing the strategic data roadmap.
  7. Manage and advocate for communication of data analytics priorities and of data strategy execution.
  8. Identify and collaborate on change management activities including driving a continuous improvement culture/mindset.
  9. Direct, coach, manage and provide for the career development of Data Management and Analytics personnel.
  10. Advocate for data privacy and data security and work with senior leadership to ensure development of related cybersecurity policy and practices.
  11. Ensure all data projects are well-defined, planned, tracked and communicated in an open, honest, timely and consistent manner to ensure intended value realization is achieved and understood.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

 

Requires a bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and at least 15 years of experience in the field.   

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PMP Certification.
  • Masters Degree.
  • Experience working in the Life Sciences Industry.
  • Experience working with or for Federal Contractors.
  • Experience in manufacturing or professional services industries.
  • Experience with SDLC projects and programs.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Data management and data analytics expertise similar programs with demonstrated successful track record.
  • Extensive SQL Server database management experience including SSRS
  • Extensive experience implementing and managing an ETL platform such as SSIS or KNIME
  • Experience developing and/or supporting an MDM platform such as Reltio, Informatica or Tibco.
  • Basic experience interfacing systems through SOAP/REST API’s as well as processing JSON and XML files
  • Excellent understanding of data warehouse architectures (Kimball, Inmon, Data Vault, etc.)
  • Proficient knowledge in designs practices including OLTP, reporting, and OLAP; big data processing and analytic technologies including Hadoop, R, and stream processing; standard and ad hoc reporting solutions;
  • SQL Server Database Administration including DDL, utilities, backup and recovery
  • Powershell scripting
  • ERWIN data modeling
  • Knowledge of Knime development, ETL and MDM data management tools
  • Solid knowledge of SOAP/REST API
  • Understanding of XML, JSON and other internet file formats
  • Must be a strong leader with assertiveness and have excellent communication and negotiation skills.

  • Able to think and operate on both the strategic and tactical levels; develop short term solutions that complement longer term goals.
