    Founded in 1925, ATCC is a non-profit organization with a mission to acquire, authenticate, preserve, develop, standardize, and distribute biological materials and information for the advancement and application of scientific knowledge.


    The Market Intelligence Manager will support the overall success of the organization by capturing and communicating scientific, technology, and commercial/competitive trends within existing or potential future markets served by ATCC. This information is to be collected and communicated using industry best practices. This role is critical in helping to ensure product development, market expansion considerations and commercial strategy are positioned for greatest benefit to the organization. The incumbent actively supports, complies with and enforces all ATCC corporate policies and procedures.

    Responsibilities

    1. Collection of technical, economic and competitive data from scientific journals, life science trade publications, government information sources, marketing intelligence databases, annual financial reports, external consultants, among other sources.
    2. Identifies key market, regulatory, science and technology trends, applies statistical rigor and provides objective insights that may affect ATCC’s corporate strategy and product portfolio. Communicates this market research data in a clear and concise manner.
    3. Summarizes complex market research data into condensed reports in specific areas of interest as guided by corporate development, product development and strategic marketing personnel. Examples of areas of interest include the microbiome, systems biology, synthetic biology, 3D cell culture, antibiotic resistance, etc.
    4. Provides quarterly summaries of trends in the scientific disciplines of interest to ATCC such as cell biology, microbiology, cancer research, infectious disease, etc. as defined by ATCC senior management.
    5. Defines and manages appropriate relationships with external life science market intelligence resources (consultants, market research organizations, etc.), while maintaining a centralized data bank. Manages the development, execution, and analysis of market research surveys, while owning the relationship with any external firms employed to gather this information.
    6. Reviews intellectual property filings for innovation gap analysis as it relates to life sciences product development.
    7. Attends scientific and clinical conferences relevant to ATCC’s mission.
    8. Supports the generation of “Voice of Customer” data as guided by Corporate Development, Strategic Marketing and Product Line Business Managers using industry best practice.
    9. Other related responsibilities as needed.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience:

     

    A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in the biological sciences with a minimum of eight years of prior experience in strategic marketing roles with a minimum of three years’ experience in obtaining and communicating market intelligence data in the life science, diagnostic, or pharma industries. Master’s degree in Marketing (MBA) or an advanced scientific degree is preferred. Candidate with existing relationships to market research organizations and professionals is helpful but not required.

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

     

    • Scientific strength in biological sciences. The ability to speak the language of our customer base in technical terms.
    • A solid understanding of best practices in collecting market intelligence data.
    • A natural networker with well-developed communication skills, persistence, positive thinking, capable of work ownership and teaming with stakeholders.
    • Strong analytical skills in compiling qualitative and quantitative data. Capable of building basic economic models.
    • Experience compiling and presenting information to senior management.
