Founded in 1925, ATCC is a non-profit organization with a mission to acquire, authenticate, preserve, develop, standardize, and distribute biological materials and information for the advancement and application of scientific knowledge. 


The Product Line Business Specialist is responsible for management of the product and pricing elements of the marketing mix of the assigned, existing ATCC product lines and overseeing operational issues related to the assigned portfolio.  For assigned product lines the Product Line Business Specialist implements business unit strategies and performs portfolio management.  The Product Line Business Specialist performs analysis needed to target growth opportunities and to implement strategies to capture those opportunities within assigned product lines. The Product Line Business Specialist facilitates cross-functional interactions related to assigned product portfolio and manages and resolves issues related to operations, distributors, and suppliers.  This position also supports the Product Line Business Manager (PLBM) in development of strategic initiatives including the development of business plans and obtaining “Voice of Customer” data, as needed. The incumbent supports and complies with all ATCC corporate and program policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a strategic plan that includes clearly defined strategic goals, objectives, timelines, budgets; forecasts, situation analysis, and product portfolio management designed to create competitive advantage in order to achieve revenue growth targets for assigned product lines.
  • Maintains and ensures that distributor relationships support the achievement of strategic business goals and objectives.
  • Works with key functional groups to resolve operational issues related to maintaining and achieving Business Unit goals and objectives.
  • Resolves customer issues involving Customer Services, Technical Services, Distribution, Licensing, and Regulatory Affairs.
  • Ensures a robust product portfolio by routinely assessing the breadth and depth of the offering, packaging, value / pricing strategies, and profitability.
  • Understands target markets and target opportunities; monitors the market, competitive, technology, and regulatory environments; proactively recommends and along with others in Marketing, implements strategies to address opportunities and threats.
  •  Maintains relationships with assigned key strategic partners.
  • Works with PLBM to ensure that appropriate resources are in place to achieve both short- and long-range objectives for product line.
  • Performs other ancillary duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education & Experience: 

  • BS in life science and a minimum of three to five years of experience in marketing, brand or product management is required. 
  • A MS is desirable; MBA or functional equivalent highly desirable.
  • Laboratory experience in cell or tissue culture is required. 
  • Experience in competitive analysis, market research and analysis is desirable. 
  • Must have excellent communication, organizational and matrix management skills including working with cross-functional teams and internal change management processes.
  • Some travel may be required.
