Overview

Founded in 1925, ATCC is a non-profit organization with a mission to acquire, authenticate, preserve, develop, standardize, and distribute biological materials and information for the advancement and application of scientific knowledge.


The Scientific Writer analyzes selected scientific information and writes, reviews and edits documentation required to support current MGS contracts and products. This position also supports the acquisition of new contracts through pre-submission activities.  The scientific writer may require supervision for new activities but is able to proceed independently once trained. The incumbent actively supports, complies with and enforces all ATCC corporate policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  1. Writes, edits and reviews Product Information Sheets, Certificates of Analysis and other documents to support AFS contracts.
  2. Writes, edits and reviews new contract proposals to support business development, as requested.
  3. Reviews QC data and identifies scientific issues related to a particular product.
  4. Performs all operations required for product release using the current ERP system.
  5. Performs document and website inspections, as requested.
  6. Performs maintenance tasks on government contract websites, as requested.
  7. Reviews and edits existing documents to accurately describe government contracts manufacturing and/or authentication activities, as requested. 
  8. Writes, edits and reviews SOPs, and work instructions, as assigned.
  9. Consults with appropriate scientific and Quality Systems personnel to address scientific and documentation issues. 
  10. Performs other ancillary duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

 

A BSc degree in a biological discipline, or similar field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant post-degree experience. Experience in academia, biotech of pharma industry, product development or research and development is required. Higher degrees may be considered as 1-3 years of relevant experience depending on the degree acquired (example PhD, MS, MBA) and the field of study. Proven writing ability is required and evidence in the form of publications of scientific information is preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Able to communicate effectively (written and verbal)
  • Knowledge of MS office suite
  • Excellent scientific writing and editing skills
  • Strong organizational skills
