Overview

Founded in 1925, ATCC is a non-profit organization with a mission to acquire, authenticate, preserve, develop, standardize, and distribute biological materials and information for the advancement and application of scientific knowledge.  


The Supervisory, Repository will lead and manage assigned activities and personnel within the inventory control and repository operations areas at NCI CR. The incumbent will utilize biorepository / bio banking and inventory control industry best practices to identify opportunities for improvements. The Repository Supervisor ensures that departmental personnel are adequately trained, resourced, equipped and focused to accomplish their goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Works with all personnel to maintain the repository such that:
    • personnel safety is optimized
    • material and equipment is maintained
    • inventory is stored and maintained to insure its viability
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with ATCC’s policies and applicable external regulations. Has authority either directly or through recommendations for employment decisions to include selection, training, performance evaluations, counseling, promotions, and terminations.
  • Participates in after-hours emergency response rotations.
  • Performs all duties according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Facility Safety Guidelines, and Food & Drug Administration (FDA) requirements to include compliance of cGMP CFR 21 parts 210 and 211 where applicable.
  • Participates in the creation of employee training, attendance and competency records.
  • Trouble shoots facility equipment issues and provides suggestions and / or solutions for implementations.
  • Picks-up projects initiated by other mid process and determines path forward, seeing project to final accurate conclusion.
  • Guides daily supervision and planning of activities in the operations area of the repository.
  • Creates daily/weekly work assignments and schedules for repository operations technicians and ensures timely completion of assignments.
  • Works in conjunction with Assistant Program Manager to provide the services and materials necessary to facilitate operations.
  • Demonstrates and promotes the company vision.Oversees the personnel tasked with pulling of material for customers.
  • Maintains service levels in each area consistent with corporate and customer service requirements.
  • Performs repository functions, as needed, to ensure appropriate service levels are maintained.
  • Based upon industry best practices, recommends departmental initiatives to improve accuracy, efficiency and automation of current processes.
  • Works with departmental personnel to develop/alter policies and procedures to ensure timely disposition of incoming material from preservation or external sources.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Biology, Biotechnology or equivalent degree
  • 5-7 years’ experience cold chain receiving and/or shipping experience required
  • 1-2 years of prior supervisory experience required.
  • Experience working with a companywide enterprise based system (ERP/MRP/BSI) is required.
  • Experience working within in a cGXP environment is required.
  • Experience developing operational performance metrics and meeting performance requirements is highly desired.
  • APICS Certification is highly desired. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Working competence with PCs including MS/Windows, MS/Excel, MS/Word and an ability to learn other MS/Windows based applications.
  • An ability to think and communicate clearly, takes initiative and work independently.
  • Knowledge of methods to handle, process, and store specimens using a computerized storage and retrieval system.
  • Knowledge of Universal Precautions, general laboratory and quality control/assurance procedures.
  • Demonstrates good professional judgment in dealings with clients.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of technical and professional personnel as well as with varied personalities.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
