Founded in 1925, ATCC is a non-profit organization with a mission to acquire, authenticate, preserve, develop, standardize, and distribute biological materials and information for the advancement and application of scientific knowledge. 


The Senior Repository Technician coordinates and expedites the flow of material between office, laboratory, multiple repositories and buildings in accordance with production and shipping schedules or priorities for the receipt, inventory, storage, withdraw, and shipment of biological specimens, samples, and materials, from multiple commercial and government clients, stored at temperatures ranging from ambient to -196°C, and having potentially hazardous properties. Evaluates and orders materials needed for specific laboratory/repository tasks applying knowledge of product and production processes. Acts as an On-the-floor first line resource/responder to database trouble-shooting, and queries by staff/clients. Internal or external client interaction is related to customer service solutions of moderate effect to the client.  This position requires a high level of complexity in implementation of increasingly diverse knowledge of technical, operative or administrative methods and practices found within the biological repository industry.  Work is done with a significant degree of independence. Evaluates and orders materials needed for specific laboratory/repository tasks applying knowledge of product and production processes.

Responsibilities

  • Follows all company policies governing operation of the Repository Area.
  • Performs all duties according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Facility Safety Guidelines, and Food & Drug Administration (FDA) requirements to includes compliance of cGMP CFR 21 parts 210 and 211 where applicable.
  • Participates in the creation of employee training, attendance and competency records.
  • Assists management in completion of reports for customer complaints, process deviations, incidents, and accidents in a timely manner.
  • May be required to travel to other facilities to meet business needs.
  • Prepares samples for pickups, courier deliveries, and shipments.
  • Participates in temperature/liquid nitrogen (LN2) level monitoring.
  • Participates in afterhours emergency response rotations.
  • Documents alarms in response to the temperature monitoring system.
  • Uses personal protective equipment, adhere to safety protocols, and follow standard operating procedures (SOP).
  • Works closely with supervisors in order to support customer inquiries, such as discrepancies in shipments, inventory maintenance, and database updates.
  • Responsible for using an ERP system for data management.
  • Performs data entry of samples into a computerized database for sample tracking and management.
  • Mentors and participates in training of peers following standard operating procedures in the effective use of equipment, methods of storage and retrieval, general laboratory procedures and systematic data entry.
  • Participates in the creation of employee training, attendance and competency records.
  • Conducts investigations to determine specimen movement history and resolves inventory inaccuracies.
  • Contributes to development of standard operating procedures for repository processes.
  • Maintains repository files for validation of data and preparation of queries; reviews accumulated data for accuracy and prepares reports of information and sample data.
  • Contributes to development of and/or creates standard operating procedures for repository processes.
  • Resolves complex discrepancies involving ID modifications/duplicate or redundant entries and multi-field corrections as directed by client or Supervisor instructions.
  • Identifies the need for and/or participates in process improvement activities.
  • Performs internal specimen consolidation and reorganization projects.
  • Verifies material prior to shipment and confirms accuracy of data entry records for incoming materials.
  • Performs the consolidation and cleaning of freezers and tanks located in the repository.
  • Trouble shoots facility equipment issues and provides suggestions and/or solutions for implementation.
  • Follows-up to direct client contact via email or face-to-face.
  • Day-to-day coordination of multiple repository projects in process.
  • Mentors and participates in training of peers following standard operating procedures in the effective use of equipment, methods of storage and retrieval, serum separation, aliquoting, general laboratory procedures and systematic data entry.
  • Shall perform work in the laboratory for basic repository specimen preparation and processing such as nucleic acid extraction, blood fractionation, cell immortalization, and basic aliquoting.
  • Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • 4 to 7 years experience  with data entry, shipping/receiving, and/or sample management.
  • Previous laboratory experience is highly desirable.
  •  Experience working with a company wide enterprise based system (ERP/MRP) is highly desirable.   

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working competence with PCs including MS/Windows, MS/Excel, MS/Word and an ability to learn other MS/Windows based applications.
  • APICS Certification a plus.
  • Knowledge of methods to handle, process, and store biological specimens using a computerized storage and retrieval system.
  • Knowledge of Universal Precautions, general laboratory and quality control/assurance procedures.
  • Must be able to communicate well in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of technical and professional personnel as well as with varied personalities.  
  • Ability to complete work under tight deadlines and have strong organizational skills
  • Working with temperature sensitive materials.
