Founded in 1925, ATCC is a non-profit organization with a mission to acquire, authenticate, preserve, develop, standardize, and distribute biological materials and information for the advancement and application of scientific knowledge.

The Senior Director of Sales & Marketing is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive, long-term sales and marketing strategy aligned with ATCC’s mission, vision, and goals. Specific responsibilities include leading progressive sales and marketing programs that support ATCC’s revenue and growth objectives; monitoring and analyzing sales and marketing activities against goals and continuously improving; and implementing new approaches to selling the complete ATCC portfolio (products, services and information) to new and existing customers worldwide.


The incumbent provides leadership, development and oversight to the sales and marketing teams (e-commerce, marketing, and domestic and international sales & distributor management), and is responsible for the fiscal management and budgeting of these programs. He/she actively supports, enforces and complies with all ATCC corporate policies and procedures.


  • Directs the organization’s sales and marketing functions to drive sales growth and customer satisfaction.
  • Works closely with leadership and other key stakeholders to develop strategies, tactics, and business plans that build brand resonance and increase both domestic and international sales.
  • Develops annual sales plan aligned with revenue and growth objectives for ATCC’s business units with a focus on new products and services.
  • Analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness of sales and marketing methods, costs, and results.
  • Develops and implements appropriate new approaches to selling the complete ATCC portfolio.
  • Initiates, develops and maintains new and existing customer relationships.
  • Leads global distribution strategies with a focus on expanding ATCC’s international footprint.
  • Develops and implements short- and long-range goals, objectives, policies and operating procedures for the sales and marketing teams.
  • Keeps abreast of best practices, and new sales and marketing technologies including digital marketing and e-commerce.
  • Develops and manages the sales and marketing budgets.
  • Performs other ancillary duties as assigned.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in delivering sales growth within life sciences or closely related industry required.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing comprehensive sales and marketing programs that advanced a company’s mission and goals, and resulted in sustainable growth required.
  • Proven experience and expertise in driving a culture of continuous improvement with a focus on people, processes and technology to enhance productivity, results, and the customer experience.
  • Experience in field sales, inside sales and key account structure.
  • Experience in developing and implementing sales incentive programs.
  • Experience in international markets preferred.
  • Domestic and occasional international travel required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of structuring sales quotas and revenue expectations.
  • Manage and continuously improve sales and marketing organizational structure to best support the overall business strategy.
  • Proficiency in software reporting and analysis tools, and CRM platforms.
